Background

Laura became a qualified Pluralistic Counsellor in 2014, but her interest in the caring professions began in 2005 when she completed her Open University degree in Psychology. She was particularly drawn to counselling and working with children, young people, and women coping with post-natal depression.

This interest led Laura to pursue a postgraduate certificate in counselling at Edinburgh University. Alongside her studies, she volunteered and worked as a counselling supervisor for Childline and Parentline. The knowledge she gained during this period was further enhanced by completing a two-year postgraduate diploma in Pluralistic Counselling at Abertay University, Dundee.

Throughout her career, Laura has practiced counselling at Cramond Medical Centre (NHS) and the Fife Rape and Sexual Assault Centre (FRASAC).

Laura firmly believes that no single counselling approach suits every person seeking help. Pluralism allows therapists to integrate various counselling perspectives to tailor techniques to each individual. While many may experience depression, everyone's journey to peace and happiness is unique.

Pluralism also emphasises the dialogue between therapist and client, empowering the client to actively participate in their wellness journey. Whether it involves simply being heard, revisiting childhood experiences, focusing on "being" rather than "doing," or co-creating solutions and goals for the future, Pluralism respects each individual's autonomy.

Laura's passion extends to working with individuals affected by trauma in its many forms. She has embraced and practiced the Complete Resources Model (CRM), which employs various techniques to engage with survivors of trauma and abuse in a safe manner to minimise re-traumatisation.

Laura believes in the active role we all play in our journey to physical and mental wellness. Working at the ECNT, she uses resources such as nutrition advice, mindfulness, and reiki to maintain her health in a holistic manner.
