Background
Dr. Maria Peer is the newest member of Active Health Physio, a service located in Edinburgh that focuses on physical activity for health, wellbeing and independence.
Her knowledge and experience of musculoskeletal and sports injury management brings something special to the team. Maria offers one to one consultations for people with acute and chronic orthopaedic conditions and common middle to later life conditions (back pain, knee pain, osteoarthritis, reduced mobility and balance, osteoporosis).
Maria runs individual and group-based Pilates classes, which gradually build strength, balance and fitness. Importantly, the classes are safe, have therapeutic goals, and emphasise the fun and social benefits of group-based exercise.
Maria qualified as a physiotherapist in Austria in 2006 and gained a wealth of experience working in the Innsbruck University hospital and private practice. She has also worked with football players and designed exercise rehabilitation classes for athletes and older adults. In 2010, Maria completed a Masters degree in physical activity, musculoskeletal practice and research at Queen Margaret University. Maria went on to complete a PhD investigating factors that contribute to better outcomes for people having knee replacement surgery. Her research findings have been published in several international journals.
Maria now combines her extensive practical and research knowledge to help clients recover pain free movement and a sense of wellbeing. You can stay updated about Maria's physiotherapy service through the Active Health Physio site as well as their Facebook page.
